Lynch’s SB 500 is Flawed

New Hampshire’s SB 500 bill is flawed and puts the safety of the people of NH at an increased level of risk, from sexual-predators and violent crime offenders – for the meager savings of $7M within a $600M shortfall. I’m sure someone could have found $7M of waste, fraud, and abuse somewhere inside the Health and Human Services domain.

Gov. John Lynch is now starting to gain some negative national press from this bill, as conservative groups highlight the apparent lapse in judgment he had, when he signed the bill into law.

Please read Part II and Part III.

There are many who say that attacking Lynch on this law are using “fear tactics”. But justification for this law (“intense supervision”), isn’t what it appeared to be. There are other ways to save money and using the “yeah, but they get paroled anyway” argument is not the way to go. Let’s hope we don’t have another Willie Horton episode.

In addition to Gov. Lynch, here are the 256 representatives who voted for it.

Here are the 57 representatives who voted against it.

Tomorrow, the NH House is conducting a special legislative session at 1pm. Will changes to SB 500, making it less risky, or an outright repeal, be considered? Probably not.
