PSU Professor Organizes Lefty Protest on College Time

Attention administration of PSU. This is what your professors are doing instead of teaching. Perhaps Roddy should be shown the door?

Look what lefty professor Roderick MacLeish is doing.

Little does he know the tea party does not ‘swing in’ to NH on April 15th. We reside here all year round. And none of the views the Professor attributes to the ‘tea party’ were ever expressed by us or can be verified as being our positions. He is simply putting words in our mouth.

You can write to the DEAN to demand he get back to teaching or be FIRED.

My name is [—–] and I am a senior at Plymouth State University. In one of my classes (Individual and the Law), I have a teacher named Roderick MacLeish. He is far leftwing radical that often touts leftist talking points during class and downgrades the Republican party and the Tea Party movement.

I often times stand up to this radical and argue and debate him on political/constitutional points.

I can live with this. I actually enjoy debating him in the arena of ideas.

But the reason I am writing this email to you guys is because recently, he has been using class time to organize an anti-tea party rally in front of the capitol building in Concord on April 15th. Recently, he sent out an email to the entire class. Not only did the email misrepresent the Tea Party and it’s views, but it contains complete lies in the Tea Party. I thought you guys should know of this.

Here is his email he sent out to the class:

“1. For those of you in my SEL or I and L classes, here is the link to the Willingham article: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/09/07/090907fa_fact_grann. If this does not work just google New Yorker and Willingham.

2. A group of Students from my Classes have founded a group called “Students Against Stupidity.” The focus of this group is on the insanity in Washington and around the country where our national priorities, as we have discussed, ignore issues that are critical to the welfare and future of students and young people ie YOU. Moreover, Republican lawmakers, with Tea Party support, are showing direct hostility toward your generation but cutting important programs such as Americorps, Teach for America, reduction in Pell grants and subsidized student loans, as well as other measures, such as the abolition of the Department of Education. Across the country, University education is becoming dramatically more expensive with larger class sizes and programmatic cutbacks. At the pre-school, primary and secondary level, there are widespread cutbacks including reducing the number of days of education, elimination of programs such as athletics, foreign languages, art and music. How do YOU realistically stand a chance in the global job market against students from Finland, China, Singapore, South Korea (I could go on) when you come from a country that now enjoys an educational ranking of 24th in the world? Are the good jobs just going to appear for a group like you, where you have such massive competition from around the world, and are they going to appear for your younger sibling and your children?

3. At the same time, the older generation is essentially being asked to make no sacrifice. Although the deficit reduction commission recommended some, they have largely been ignored. Part of this stems from the enormous political power of the TEA PART (ed note: sic) which opposes most entitlement reform and calls for a stronger military, which presumably would cost more money.

4. A group of your colleagues feel that this is stupidity and unfair and they are starting to become an effective counter force. YOUR PROTEST LAST MONTH JUST PROMPTED A LEAD ARTICLE IN THE WASHINGTON POST ON MARCH 8 which featured a picture of PSU student Drew Peake and others protesting. YOUR PROTEST MADE INTERNATIONAL NEWS ON YAHOO.COM. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE POWER THAT YOU HAVE TO ADVANCE AN AGENDA THAT FOCUSES ON THE NEED OF THE NEXT GENERATION? DO YOU INTEND TO SIT AT HOME AND PLAY WORLD OF WARCRAFT OR DO YOU INTEND TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?

5. So here is the deal. On April 15, the Tea Party is swinging into Concord to have its annual anti-tax protest (which is essentially an anti-young people protest). They rule the streets and they rule the political agenda. That agenda is decidedly AGAINST anti-young people, (ed note: grammatical error?) the very same agenda that was designed to prevent you (ed note: grammatical) some of you from voting in NH, WHICH YOU WON!!

6. Can you imagine the prospect of turning out dozens of young college students (as well as their supporters) to stand up against this stupidity. If you think you cannot make this a national movement you are wrong. You can make a huge difference and change history. It’s all about effort.

7. What is more, the student counter protest is designed to be fun. It will feature singing, music, humor, dancing, some small skits designed to point out the absurdity, selfishness and stupidity of the tea party position. It will also feature food. It will be in stark contrast to the humorless, dark and generally negative rallies of the tea party. And, yes, it will be designed to show your class and their stupidity. You will, in short, be standing them up.

8. We are having an informational meeting in Hyde 315 this Tuesday at 7 pm. It will include pizza, salad and other goodies (if you want to bring some, feel free — let Elyse Sedgley know).

9. This is not a PSU organization and it is not designed to be; there are too many limitations. We may have an information table at the HUB; maybe not.

10. There are lots to do to organize this protest and we NEED YOUR HELP NOW. Please contact Elyse Sedgley (address above) to let her know if you can make it.”

Note: The students did not win the right to vote twice. The bill went back to committee and will be passed at a later date.

UPDATE!

Professor MacLeish has had the audacity to suggest that we come to his classroom and explain and defend our positions. We declined because, just as we feel it is inappropriate for HIM to be spending time indoctrinating students into believing in his personal political beliefs, school is no place for US to do that either.

Instead, he should be teaching LAW just as Leo Sandy should be teaching PSYCHOLOGY, NOT indoctrinating the students into the acceptance of WORLD GOVERNMENT which is the UN’s, and apparently Sandy’s, objective.

Note: The positions that Professor MacLeish claims are espoused by the ‘tea party’ in the missive he sent to his students are not necessarily correct. There are a few spelling and grammatical errors which the editor has noted.
