About 500 people attended last night’s U.S. Department of Energy (D.O.E.) scoping hearing in Concord, the first of four hearings the D.O.E. is holding to gather public input on what should be included in the upcoming Environmental Impact Statement for the project. Of those who registered to speak, 21 spoke in favor of the project, while 46 spoke against, including Jane Difley, Forest Society president/forester. Many opponents spoke eloquently about their deep concern about Northern Pass’s amended permit application.
Three more hearings are scheduled this week.
