Dear Governor Hassan,
On August 1st, 2014 The Union Leader reported that the federal government dumped 13 unaccompanied non-citizen children in New Hampshire on January 1. Curiously, the year they were dumped was not transcribed in the article.
The following statement was attributed to you Governor Hassan by your press secretary William Hinkle; “As a national issue, the governor believes that Congress should work together to find a bipartisan solution to America’s immigration issues and to ensure that no children are put in a dangerous situation.” That’s it?
Your only statement published in the Union Leader on 8/11/2014; “federal officials began asking states earlier this summer for help housing the detained unaccompanied children, Gov. Maggie Hassan said the state had received no such request, but would consider it if a request were made”, is MOOT! The little waifs were dumped January 1.
On your watch Governor Hassan the federal government encroached on New Hampshire’s Sovereignty under the cover of darkness and unbeknownst to any elected authority. They unceremoniously rid themselves of 13 unaccompanied non-citizen children January 1 and you still have yet to respond?
You are the elected Chief Executive of the great state of New Hampshire. You have been charged with the “faithful execution of the laws of this state and her Constitution” which includes Part 1, Article 7 which “declares that the people of this State have the sole and exclusive right of governing themselves as a free, sovereign, and independent State”.
The federal government has discarded 13 unaccompanied non-citizen children for whom the state New Hampshire taxpayers are now financially responsible (taxation without representation). This is an egregious violation perpetrated against your constituents by the federal government Madam Governor.
This violation of New Hampshire’s state border needs an immediate repudiation from you. Failure to do so actually condones and excuses the federal government’s outright refusal to secure the borders and enforce existing immigration laws that have resulted in the murders of two border guards and the unjust jailing of an American Marine. DO NOT allow the great state of New Hampshire to become complicit in this lawlessness.
