Schools Not Teaching Basics of US Government

In Bedford NH, two students recently admitted they have never read the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, or Federalist Papers.
Students are doing Democracy in Action requirements by working for candidates without understanding what they are supporting.
(DIA is supposed to be a learning experience not a call to activism – for example they might observe what goes on at a GOP meeting but they may not vote)
Maybe this is why?
